Week of Global Action Against Debt
8-16 October 2011

For the first time in a
decade, people in Europe are experiencing what those in the global
South have known for generations: the power of debt to dictate the
course of people’s lives.
Debt Week 2011
Millions of people are living
in extreme poverty while governments use our money to bail out a
financial system that is making the world more unequal.
From 8-16 October 2011 we
will join with Jubilee groups around the world for a week of action
against debt and the international financial institutions.
We will be demanding
debt justice NOT debt slavery.
In the UK, we will be making the links between debt justice and
two of the big news stories of the year:
End Britain’s Dodgy
Deals.
As democracy movements
strengthen across North Africa and the Middle East, countries like
Egypt are being asked to repay dictator debts to the UK government
– and they don’t even know what the money was used
for.
Debtocracy.
It’s the debt documentary that has taken Greece by storm. From
the history of Greece's debt, to the different ways
countries like Ecuador and Argentina have stood up for democratic
control over national finances, Debtocracy is an essential tool for
understanding the European debt crisis.
